This will be the third women’s tournament organized in the country this year (NdR: South American and FIBA Americas, both U18), and that also shows that there is an interest in the project. This is the third time in history that a South American for Seniors is held in our country. In Buenos Aires 1948 it was the first time, for the second edition of the contest and with a Selection that ended up winning gold. The second opportunity was in Mendoza 2013, 65 years later and in the 33rd installment, with Argentina runner-up. Finally, San Luis 2022 will be the third time.

Argentina twice won a South American, celebrating both in Buenos Aires 1948 as well as in the last edition of Tunja 2018 (Colombia), being champion after 70 years and breaking a hegemony of Brazil of 16 consecutive titles and the most dominant of these tournaments. (won 26 of 36 championships).

La Albiceleste got on the podium in 15 of the last 16 deliveries, from Santiago de Chile 1989 onwards and without being able to finish within the top three only in Barquisimeto 2016 (it was 4th). She won 16 silver medals in her history and 6 times she was bronze, accounting for a total of 24 podium finishes.
