Currently, and before the beginning of the July holidays, CAMBIO maintained contact with Diego González, tour operator of Termas del Daymán, and we asked him what is the percentage of occupancy or accommodation reservations that are available for these holidays of July and if there are expectations that this week will be the beginning of the strong season in the thermal centers. The start of the holidays from yesterday has a percentage of reservations that is around 50 to 60%.

The tour operator also added “obviously that all the tourists who are willing to arrive at the thermal centers are mostly of Uruguayan nationality and by the second week the percentages rise to reach an average of 70% average occupancy and we are hopeful.” that more interesting percentages are reached there because last-minute reservations and confirmations continue to be received for the second week and that is where the largest number of foreign tourists is found, although it is very low compared to other years”.

González also highlighted “After the weekend that includes the holiday of July 18, which is taken by many as one more day of vacation, the number of reservations drops abruptly, something that in previous years did not happen, because The occupancy levels remained very good, because the vacations in Argentina or Brazil continued and this year it is costing a lot for them to come, which is quite obvious because the exchange rate difference does not favor them. The expectation that one has after the vacations end is one of great uncertainty, because there is a reality that traveling to Argentina is much cheaper, although many rates and prices of goods or services have suffered increases, economically according to the type in exchange, it continues to be very favorable for the Uruguayan traveler”, he said.

The operator pointed out that “for this issue we continue to demand various measures that help us alleviate a little the exodus of tourists to those destinations in Argentina and that at least take into account that there are some benefits on the Uruguayan side and based on that subtract that outflow of people. For now we are waiting for the number of tourists arriving to improve.”
