Sources: LaVine to see specialist for knee problems

The star shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls, Zach LaVine, will travel to Los Angeles to undergo further evaluation of his left knee, sources told ESPN. It is expected that he can participate in the All-Star Game next Sunday.

LaVine has been experiencing knee discomfort for several weeks, and while a January MRI showed no structural damage, there is certainly a level of concern within the organization, the sources added.

LaVine was selected for the second All-Star game of his career and is averaging 24.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists so far this season. LaVine and his Bulls teammate (and fellow All-Star) DeMar DeRozan they have been the highest-scoring team duo in the league this season, averaging 52.3 points, according to ESPN’s Stats & Information.

LaVine seemed to struggle during Friday’s win over Minnesota, shooting 5-for-14. LaVine missed Saturday’s win over Oklahoma City, and missed back-to-back games against Indiana and Philadelphia on Feb. 4 and 6. He will miss Monday and Wednesday games before the All-Star break, sources said.

The Bulls are dealing with tough injuries this season, including Lonzo Ball (meniscal tear) and Alex Caruso (wrist fracture), who will be out for several weeks after having surgery. The team also lost striker patrick williams from a wrist injury earlier in the season, though he is expected to return this year.

Through it all, the Bulls are 36-21, a game behind Miami, which sits in first place in the Eastern Conference standings.
