Somisa expanded its dominance in recent years in the First Division of the San Nicolás Basketball Association and last night added the seventh title in its history, the sixth in 2017 to date. In the decisive clash of the Final Four of the “Daniel ´Nene´ Spurio” tournament, which took place in a crowded “Founder Members” stadium, the somiseros beat Regatas in supplementary 85-80, in a great match.
As happened in the semifinal against Defensores, point guard Santiago Calderón was the home team’s top scorer with 18 points (4-7 in doubles, 2-7 in triples and 4-5 in free practice). However, the figure of the night ended up being Ramiro Cruz, of vital contribution in key moments (he scored 14 of his 17 points between the last quarter and overtime). For his part, the captain of Somisa Federico Pascual reached the fourteen championships in his personal showcase (five of which he achieved with Somisa, one with Regatas, another with Defensores and the remaining seven with Belgrano).
Regatas had a good final and, well, it could have been the victory, based on its greater poise from the team and outstanding individual performances (in a short team, by the way). In fact, during most of the match, the Náutico played as they wanted, which in the third period got a difference of twelve (maximum, 46-34). There, the kid Manuel Rodríguez rescued Somisa from a critical condition with two triples in a row. And one more from Pascual returned him to the fight (the homeowners had 3-14 in that category, ending with 12-28). Although Regatas recovered and closed that chapter better under the baton of “Pato” Rodríguez (13 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 recoveries), the visit was gradually remaining, before a rival with greater replacement.
Even so, a very good version of Ingrata Valentine kept him up in the final act (the guard added 21 points, with 6-15 in shots from the court and 4-5 in free shots, plus 7 rebounds and 3 assists). In Somisa, Calderón began to gravitate (and as against the game, López stopped unbalancing, important until then), while Dentis (12 points, 14 rebounds and 3 caps) and Rausch began to dominate the rebound fight (21 between the two totaled ). And also Cruz emerged with all his capacity. In a vibrant closing, it also seemed that the victory would be for Regatas, after a triple by Noguera, who left the dribbles ahead 72-70 at 15 seconds. Calderón tied with a good basket after a penetration, and as Regatas failed in the final shot through Mena they went to extra time (from the visiting bench they claimed a foul from Dentis).
In the additional 5 Somisa took distance thanks to his aim in the long shots, with the annotations of the always-performing Lete, Calderón and Cruz, while Regatas resisted through Mena and Noguera. However, Pérez Douthat –with a discreet performance up to there- got a fundamental basket that left Arámburu’s men in front 83-80. In response, this time Ingrata could not score and Cruz from the free line ended up giving the victory to Somisa, who showed personality to reverse a process that had been presented adverse and shouted champion again to the joy of his fans.
