Regaining ground lost in the pandemic: the great challenge of Southwest basketball

CHARATA (Agency) Associative basketball returned to official competition, after a long stop, with a transition tournament, seeking to strengthen the clubs in their activity. The president of the Association of Basketball of the Southwest Chaqueño, Oscar Tolosa, assured that the important thing is that it was played again.

ABSCH President Oscar Tolosa spoke with Norte about the return, little by little, of the activity in the region. He also mentioned the arbitration moment of Iván Huck, a brand new referee Fiba and recalled Cesar “Chelin” Oviedo.

“We will try in two months – and a little more – to play in the best possible way in an irregular tournament because the number of teams is uneven and the programming is really complicated. The good thing is that there is a predisposition and good will to move this forward. The idea is that everyone plays and that we can all complete this in a timely manner, ”explained Oscar Tolosa, presiding over ABSCH.

Regarding the analysis made by the institution on the situation of the clubs after more than a year and a half of pandemic, Tolosa stressed that “the majority stated that there was abandonment of the activity. The outlook was not easy for anyone, especially when there were other sports that were allowed to be active before basketball. Paddle tennis is a clear example and many boys dedicated themselves fully to that sport ”.

Some of the changes that were implemented, in this tournament that could be called transitional, is that due to the absence of players, clubs are allowed to include two women in categories U 15 and U 17 as an exception, to complete Template. “The idea is that the club does not give up participating, that’s what it is aiming for,” explained Tolosa.

“It is an important challenge that we all have to recover lost ground. What we will try is to generate the opportunity and possibility that basketball offers in the region for the boy. That he is interested and motivated to go to train. Hopefully we can achieve it because it is something in which we are all involved, leaders, referees, players, parents, “he added.

“The good thing to highlight is that we were able to form two categories in the women’s U17 with 5 teams and First with 7 teams, something that makes us happy and allows us to look to the future in a different way,” he remarked.

Regarding the name of the current tournament, Tolosa said that the Association, together with the referees, decided to honor Cesar “Chelin” Oviedo, who died in 2020, in an accident. “By a special request from the referees, the tournament bears their name, they understood that this was the time to do it, even though it was a short tournament and we agreed because Shilling was an important part of basketball in our area and a very dear person especially. for the people of Charata, without a doubt, a fair recognition for him ”.

International referee

As a counterpart, Iván Huck’s certification as an international arbitrator was officially confirmed in September. “Iván’s was a bit of the icing on the cake of something that we started back in 2016 with Sebastián Vasallo at the helm, with a large number of physical education students who, at that time, exceeded 100 people in that first chat. Over time it was refined in the long run, it produced important new features. It is Sebastián’s daily effort to get to Las Breñas hot and cold, and to be available to work fully thinking about what is happening today. Not only because of Iván, but also to highlight that scorers and table officials came from here. A great satisfaction for the basketball family in the region ”, he concluded

Italian acquired a group for its athletes

Italian Association of Charata, which last month celebrated 94 years of institutional life, acquired a used bus with capacity for 55 passengers.

The car, a 2006 model with a Mercedes Benz engine, will be used to transport delegations from the disciplines of Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Rugby, Choir and Hockey to their away games or encounters outside the city.

A not minor detail is that in addition to being available for the club’s disciplines, it will also be available for rent to other institutions. A very important step for the Charata club that brings together different disciplines and in several categories.
