“Our goal is to enter the playoffs”

The round of coaches reached Simón Bolivar, where Roberto Tellechea spoke with BT about Marne’s preparation for the DTA that will begin in the next few hours.

How has the team’s preparation been?

Well, the truth is that it is very good. Despite the fact that we are a young and purely amateur team, we cannot train every day, but the preparation has been good, the players are plugged in and committed to the project and to the club.

Is planning difficult in such a short and sometimes amateur tournament?

No, it is not complicated. I have many years in basketball, many years directing and I have had to go through several of these. What is beautiful and difficult is the championship itself, which is very tough, very strong as ever. This tournament looks like a Metro and not a DTA, on that side it is nice to plan this kind of matches that we are going to have throughout the championship.

How did the fixture fall in the team?

It doesn’t change us much for us, but it fell well. We started with Auriblanco visiting and then we have two in a row at home, at home, with a field that we know is brave, which is what we like and we feel comfortable.

One of the keys will be to become strong as a local …

And yes, this court is very particular. As who says it is a “little box”, where teams find it very difficult to play on a hard floor and with such a small court. We feel comfortable here, we know that we have a “plus” with the locality that we are going to try to take advantage of.

Most of the squad have not played professional basketball for at least a year and a half. How was the return for them and how much does this aspect matter?

This issue is an expectation, it has been almost two years without professional activity for several of our staff. Although the friendlies are filming you and the team felt good, then the bustle of the tournament is giving you things that the training or friendlies do not. We have a very young team, reality is marked by the field and the games themselves.

What is the purpose of this Marne?

Our goal is to get into the playoffs. We know that there are several candidates, who have armed themselves strong to go in search of promotion, we know that we are one step below the cadres that bet for that and have a lot of name. With our weapons we are going to fight and go match by match.

What game will the team try to impose?

The team will build from the back to the front, asserting fresh legs with an intense defense. Playing very dynamic offensively, it is on the squad that he has a good perimeter shot. We want to play fast and fairly modern basketball, let’s see if we can do it and they let us … (laughs)

Who goes up?

And, candidates for promotion come out on their own. They are Welcome, Reducto, Atenas and Auriblanco per squad, they start as the main candidates to fight, they are the commissary’s horses.

To the Marne fan …

The Marne fan is particular, it is not a popular club but those who feel the club live it in a very beautiful way, for them we will leave everything in each game. It is a particular year in this context of a pandemic, the problem of this field is the capacity, where few fans can enter the games. The beauty of Marne is that the training sessions are very close to the first one, there we are going to have a problem with the list limiting a bit (laughs). Everyone’s expectation is to see the club back on the pitch and we will give everything to do our best.
