NBA reschedules games postponed due to COVID

The NBA has rescheduled the 11 games that were postponed in December for coronavirus-related issues and changed the dates or times of another 10 games to help accommodate those changes.

The Toronto Raptors had six affected games, the Chicago Bulls had five and the Brooklyn Nets four. In total, 18 of the league’s 30 teams had at least one modified date for future changes or adjustments, which were announced Monday.

Currently, there are seven teams that have at least one streak of playing four games in five nights: Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets. The original NBA schedule did not foresee these stages, although it was inevitable with the changes.

“The goal and priority here was to avoid teams playing three games in three nights and to pursue an intermediate approach,” said Evan Wasch, an NBA executive vice president who helps oversee the league’s programming.

The Nets, who couldn’t play at the Portland Trail Blazers last month because they didn’t have nearly a dozen players due to virus-related issues, have a very unusual schedule next week.

Brooklyn plays the San Antonio Spurs at home on Sunday, then crosses the country for a rescheduled game in Portland the next day, January 10. Later, the Nets return to the East and visit Chicago on January 12.

To help with the demands of that trip to Portland, the NBA moved Sunday’s game between the Spurs and the Nets to noon Eastern. The teams had been scheduled to play a night game, but now the Nets should be in Portland on Sunday night.

There are a couple of extra options for that game between the Nets and Blazers, Wasch said, but playing it on Jan. 10 is the best for everyone involved.

“The main reason for releasing them now is that we wanted to make sure that the teams had at least a week notice of any postponements, from the perspective of travel, basketball planning, business, ticket sales, all of those. things, ”Wasch said. “It made sense to do it now,” he added.
