Mavs lose win compass at home

DALLAS – The Dallas Mavericks forgot to play at home and squandered what seemed like a good opportunity to move up a notch in the NBA Western Conference.

On Wednesday they were outclassed in all aspects of the game by the New York Knicks and, in addition to the result, 107-77, saw their five-game winning streak snapped at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

“We had a lot of great things in this stay at home,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “You can’t let one bad game ruin everything. And it’s not going to happen. We just played badly and lost tonight.”

The 30-point difference represents the biggest difference the Mavericks have had at home this season, where they showed little to nothing on the offensive end of the floor.

Only in the third quarter were they competitive in a game in which they never had the lead and were down by up to 32 points.

“I think our energy failed,” Kidd said. “The shots weren’t very good. We talked about it before the game. Some started to get cold on their shots and then it seemed to spread to everybody. It happens. That’s why you play 82 games. We stayed under 42 percent ( shooting from the field), we just couldn’t score.

In the end, the Mavericks shot just 31.4 percent from the field and were only 28 percent successful in the first half. They missed 38 triple attempts (6/44), the most in franchise history, and only added 11 assists, the fewest of the season in A pathetic night against the New Yorkers.

Luka Doncić he scored 31 points, including 17 in the first 10 minutes of the third period, he also had six rebounds and four assists. Spence Dinwiddie scored another 13 points and they were the only two Mavs in double figures on offense for Dallas.

Maxi Cleber and Reggie Bullock they combined for 0-15 from the field, including 12 3-point attempts.

“We just have to keep going,” Doncic said. “You have to focus on the next one. We won five in a row and had a bad game, just like that.”

For the Knicks it was a well-crafted victory, from both sides of the ball and their third consecutive victory, after they had lost seven in a row and 11 of 12.

Six New York players were in double figures, including all the starters, led by the 26 of julius randlejust one game after he scored 46 against the Sacramento Kings.

“It was important to play well for me, here at home,” acknowledged Randle, who is from Dallas, where he still resides in the offseason. “I played in front of my mom, sister and obviously my wife and kids. Whenever I come here, I like to put on a little bit of a good show.”

The Mavericks, who stayed in fifth place in the West, one game behind the Utah Jazz, will begin a five-game tour in Houston this Friday, the longest remaining in the regular season and which will also pass through Boston, Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Charlotte.

“We struggled to shoot early in the season and found ways to win games,” Kidd said. “We will learn from this, pack up and travel to Houston.”

The Knicks, who sit 12th in the East, continue with the final two games of their four-game road trip, beginning Friday in Memphis and Brooklyn, before returning to their arena.
