And Balbo, in his innovative project, opted to add to his coaching staff Julius Lamas, an eminence of Argentine basketball. And Lamas enjoys this challenge in football with Central Córdoba.

“I help Abel in managing the coaching staff and the team. He is the one who makes all the decisions. I am very enthusiastic and excitedlearning many things about football and from my teammates on the coaching staff. It will surely be an enriching experience.“, highlighted the former coach of the Golden Generation after his first weeks of work at the Railway.

“I don’t have a plan to go over and make a career in soccer. This was Abel’s idea, who invited me to join his coaching staff, gave me his reasons, his ideas and that interested me. I was curious, it seemed to me a different challenge and I decided to join,” said Lamas, 58, who led the Argentine basketball team in two cycles (1997-1999 and 2011-2014), in a chat with Télam.

HIS ROLE IN THE BALBO TECHNICAL CORPS

“I help Abel in managing the coaching staff and the team. When football content is prepared, trained or explained, I listen and watch, but I don’t participate. There is another part of the coach’s role, which is communication and building trust, in which I help. I give my opinions in those moments and Abel makes all the decisions. An example in communication? In a team sport, it is the same or quite similar how it is taught, how it is shownhow a gaming system or concept is installed or automated. In the same way as how a video is used to correct a mistake or to show something. And as for building trustwhat makes a team good or bad, is something in which I do have the knowledge and experience of doing it for 30 years”.

“The main thing here is to make a tailored suit according to the needs of this coaching staff at Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero. I must adapt to the form, Abel’s work style and the coaching staff that I am part of to try to add to the what I can and not subtract anything. When there is something that is being talked about in which I feel qualified to give an opinion, I do it and when not, I keep quiet. “

WHAT CALLED THE ATTENTION OF THE FOOTBALL WORLD

“Many things because it’s all new to me. But it’s been a short time and I would wait longer to be able to make that reflection. From the outset, I would say that we are three times as many people as a basketball team and that changes the situation. Then I was surprised by the enormous massiveness that football has and the enormous media repercussion it generates. I always looked closely at things about football because I have worked in clubs with a long football tradition, so in a way it seemed to me that it was like that, but living it from the inside is very different”.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL FUTURE

“I have no idea what could happen. If they had told me a couple of years ago that my next two jobs would be managing the Japanese basketball team and being part of a soccer coaching staff, I would not have believed it. And here we are. With the coaching staff I am a member of, we are completely focused on being able to fulfill the objective we have with Central Córdoba. We got on a moving train during the tournament and we have a lot of work every day. I am very enthusiastic, very excited and learning many things about football and from my teammates of the coaching staff. It will surely be an enriching experience”.
