John Wall will sign with the Clippers as a free agent

John Wall has already decided. As reported ESPNthe veteran base has closed an agreement of buy out with Houston and will arrive in the next few days to the Clippers as a free agent.

The negotiation with the Rockets has been somewhat simple. Wall, who exercised his player option for the current season worth 47.4 million dollars, has given up 6.5 million of that amount to be free. Perhaps not coincidentally, this figure is similar to the mid-level exception that the Los Angeles franchise could offer.

Wall will join the Clippers, a team that already has Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, after a full season without playing. That was what he agreed with the Texas organization while looking for a way out via trade. Finally this did not arrive and although the point guard He wanted to return to the fields, from the team they did not want to give him the minutes he wanted, so the 2021-22 academic year ended without us seeing him debut.

Given such a period of inactivity – he has not played an official game since April 2021 – you have to go back to that 2020-21 campaign to see what he can contribute to the Angelenos. That year, and after overcoming a very serious injury, he averaged 20.6 points and 6.9 assists in 40 games played. It is likely that his numbers will be different next season, but at least they make it clear that we are not far from a finished player (he is 31 years old).

If Wall’s arrival at the Clippers is confirmed, it would cover a need that has been dragging on for several seasons: having a playmaker. Despite having a very good squad, the Angelenos have suffered from a base to use. Last year such a role fell to Reggie Jackson, who did not do badly, but his style of play is different. Is Wall the missing piece for the Clippers to really aspire to the ring? Can be.
