HUGE WIN FOR BELGRANO AND WORRYING FALL FOR SOMISA IN THE FEDERAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE

After having entered the last quarter losing by eight, the Red achieved a great victory by beating Gimnasia 85-69 at home, which had won four in a row, preventing its rival from reaching the top of the group. Somisa, on the other hand, suffered his third loss in a row after losing to Sportmen 89-63 and still hasn’t won in Rosario.

Belgrano’s best last night (along with Calcaterra): Núñez (18 points and 14 rebounds), Maffei (17+4+7 assists) and Lagger (22+5+2).

The eleventh date of the CAB Region Division 1 of the Federal Basketball League continued to develop last night with two games, with a presence from Nicole in both. In our city, Belgrano achieved a huge victory by beating Gimnasia 85-69, which had four consecutive wins. Instead, Somisa had another bad night and suffered a worrying 89-63 loss to Sportmen in Rosario, where he has yet to win so far in the tournament. The day –which had started on Tuesday with the triumph of Provincial against Temperley- will be completed today with the duel between Rosario who will hold Atalaya and Náutico Sportivo Avellaneda from 9:00 p.m. Regatas, despite having been released on this occasion, continues to be the absolute leader of the group, taking advantage of Gimnasia’s setback.

For Belgrano, what was achieved yesterday has a lot of value, beyond the mere fact of having won. Not only for having done so against a direct rival in the fight for the top positions (whom he had already beaten and against who will prevail in the event of a possible tie in the table at the end of the regular phase) but because he entered the fourth quarter losing by eight (became ten down in the third period). El Rojo managed to reverse history with a tremendous final chapter, when he came from highest to lowest in his level from first to third (and his opponent in the opposite direction). In the first six minutes he nailed a run of 18-0, exhibiting a solid game, both defensively and offensively, along with an overwhelming attitude. Daniel Maffei’s team recovered the goal from outside (they were 4-16 in triples and finished with 9-23) and ended up showing off offensively, with outstanding individual performances by Lucas Núñez (“double figure” with 18 points and 14 rebounds), Nicolás Maffei (17+4+7 assists), Genaro Calcaterra (17 points and 5 recoveries) and his scorer in the match, Octavio Lagger (22 points, with 6-8 in doubles, 3-5 in triples and 1-3 in free). This is how he closed the night, prevailing by the maximum difference of the night, against a Gimnasia that had no answers to counteract the momentum of its opponent (and that in that last act concluded with 2-14 in shots from the field and 6 turnovers). On the side of the Belgranenses, pivot Joaquín Lallana reappeared after 40 days, recovering from an injury to his right foot (he played 6 minutes and scored 2 points).

As for Somi, it must be said that he had another weak start to the game and therefore had almost no chance of entering the game. The team led by Nicolás Arámburu ended up losing away to Sportmen, suffering their third loss in a row (all in Rosario), the sixth in their last seven appearances. These results took him from fighting in the main positions to risking his classification for the play-offs, with serious possibilities of continuing to complicate his panorama if he does not straighten his course quickly. For now, tomorrow the somiseros will play in the “Founding Partners” against Belgrano; one that comes “in the doldrums” and another that will reach that clash with spirits through the roof.
