Granger: I wanted to go back to Baskonia – Basketball – ABC Color

Vitoria, Aug 23 (EFE) .- The new Baskonia player Jayson Granger affirmed this Monday that if the Baskonia door opened, he wanted to return and added that he did not hesitate when the offer from the Vitorian club arrived.

The Uruguayan, who will wear number 11 and signed a two-season commitment, explained at a press conference that he returned “wanting to remove this thorn and to show” his level in a great team.

He confessed that Baskonia was not expected to call him again and said that in Alba Berlin he found “a place to regain confidence and rhythm” that he had not had in Vitoria.

“I could not play at the best level and I want to show that I can help,” said the Uruguayan point guard, who has forgotten about his injuries and did not have any ankle discomfort during his German stage.

He noted that now he has more “mental strength and maturity in the game” because he had to watch a lot of basketball from the outside because of injuries. He also valued the fact of training with Aíto García Reneses. “He’s a teacher,” he explained.

“Mentally I feel stronger than ever and although in sport you do not know what can happen, I come to play and do my best,” said the game director, who does not think that it will happen again as serious as the ankle injuries he sustained during the previous three-year Baskonia stage. “I am not superstitious, if I had not signed for Baskonia,” he said.

Jayson Granger was introduced alongside Wade Baldwin, towards whom he had very good words. “He made a huge leap in quality last year, he was one of the best point guards and in the open field he is unstoppable,” argued the Uruguayan, who stressed that “physically he is the best in Europe” because he has suffered.

“We can understand each other very well and play together. We will try to print an explosive and dynamic rhythm from an aggressive defense ”, he stressed.

He valued the squad that has formed the Baskonista club, with “people very hungry and wanting to show that they can be at the highest level”, although as there are many new players, he asked for time to “fit the pieces.”

Jayson Granger will be the captain of Baskonia, alongside Alec Peters. “It is a very nice opportunity. I will try to be the leader inside and outside and teach everyone what it means to wear this shirt and what ‘Baskonia Character’ is, “he said.
