“Entering among the 4 for us would be a great prize”

A few hours before the start of a new Women’s Basketball League, we chatted with the last coach of the wheel. Matías Gallo spoke with Básquet Total and played several songs prior to the start of the tournament.

How do you see the team for the start of a new LFB?

The team is fine. We are excited about the way we play. We understand that our objectives this year are different, so we are prioritizing the “how to do things” before thinking about winning and winning. Hopefully we get as close as possible to our best version.

What does it feel like to be at the helm as DT of Bohemios?

It feels good, especially for this beautiful group of little girls who deserves to be recognized for defending the name of the club at the worst moment in its history.

For me it is a personal challenge to be able to join pieces that are difficult to fit together since there are girls of 15 years and players of 30 or more years. But we have been working hard and with joy for a long time so we are excited.

The roster is almost the same as last year. How will you make up for a loss as important as that of Josefina Zeballos?

We believe that we are the only team that does not add anyone, I think it is a nice opportunity for the girls of the club to play.

All my life I heard the clubs say that they are going to play with club players without this being really fulfilled, our idea is to defend that so the gap left by those who are no longer there will be filled by the youngest who come from u16 and u19.

In our campus there are only 4 majors, the rest are all formative. The talent of Jose (Zeballos) is irreplaceable, as well as the abilities of Celia Fiorotto, so the first thing was to create real expectations of what we are going to look for in the competition.

Last year they took bronze. This year the bet is to go to more?

No. Our goal is to be competitive in every game by playing a style of basketball which is training the youngest.

Entering among the 4 for us would be a great prize for the effort that we have put into it all this time but we will go game by game seeing how we managed to fit in this championship, last year there were games to which we arrived knowing that we were going to win them and this year it’s not going to be like that anymore. The positive side of that is that each match will be a great challenge for a group full of young players accompanied by some experienced players like Daniela (Tovagliari), Camila (Dos Santos) and “Arancha” Sureda.

How do you see the debut against Yale?

We faced an even match, we played a friendly with them last week and it was an even match from start to finish. I know Rodrigo (Briñon), I know how well he works so it seems like a nice match to start the tournament.

What opinion do you deserve that all the matches of the regular phase are played at CEFUBB again?

It seems very good to me. It is a very beautiful court and women’s basketball deserves these behaviors because it has been rowing for years to gain a solid space.

With the professionalization of some clubs and the conditions of the matches, I already believe that it is a good advance.

What do you think of the new tournament format?

I think that once again the fact of playing all against all does not serve those above or below, but this is already a worn-out issue. Unfortunately this was voted on but hey, it has to be faced in the best possible way.

What do you think of adding new teams to the competition?

It seems great to me, it is another symptom that women’s basketball does not stop growing. Hopefully they continue to appear and the league is increasingly solid.

Do you see any team as a clear favorite?

In the previous one it would seem that Malvín is the great favorite, but you have to wait to see the teams play.
