Embiid exceeds protocol, now in doubt for Game 3

PHILADELPHIA — Joel Embid is in doubt for Game 3 of the Philadelphia 76ers’ Eastern Conference semifinal against the Miami Heat on Friday night (7 pm ET, ESPN Deportes) as he continues to progress toward a possible return to the floor.

Embiid passed the NBA’s concussion protocol and participated in the team’s morning shooting practice at its Camden, New Jersey, practice facility, the first steps toward his comeback from the facial fracture and concussion he suffered when he was hit. in the head by an elbow from the forward of the Toronto Raptors Pascal Siakam at the end of Game 6 of Philadelphia’s first-round series last week.

The team said Friday morning that Embiid was still out, but his status could change as the day progressed. He was later promoted to doubtful on the team’s official injury report at 12:30 pm ET.

Markelle Fultz and suffering a left facial fracture and a concussion.

Philadelphia struggled without Embiid, who last month was named an NBA MVP finalist for the second straight season. In the two games in Miami, the Sixers went 14 of 64 from 3 points and had no answers for the Miami All-Star center Bam Adebayowho averaged 23.5 points and 10.5 rebounds on 71.4 percent shooting in the two games, both Heat wins.

Meanwhile, the Heat continue to wait and see if Kyle Lowrywho has missed the last four games with a hamstring injury, will be able to play in Game 3. The team said he is questionable for Game 3.
