One of the football rivalries that has marked the most in the last decade is that of Cristiano Ronaldo vs. the Atletico Madrid from Diego Simeon. In finals, titanic definition matches, kill-kill series, CR7 and Cholo’s team coincided and starred -especially in the time of the Portuguese in the Real Madridalthough also in his recent passage through Juventus and now in the Man Utd– a lot of chapters of a story that will be expanded this Wednesday. And that is well worth reviewing in advance of the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League.

Although the track record is fairly balanced, In this series of matches between Cristiano and Simeone there is an extremely striking and favorable peculiarity to the stupendous 37-year-old Portuguese striker, logically opposite of Cholo’s numbers. This, of course, acquires greater value due to the current context, hours before a new clash for the Champions Cup.
EQUAL HISTORY, BUT NOT SO MUCH
In total, CR7 and Simeone crossed paths in 29 opportunities, with ten wins for the Portuguese, ten draws and nine wins for the Argentine coach.

However, the point to note is that Cristiano Ronaldo eliminated Simeone the five times they met head-to-head for the Champions League! And not only that: four of those five keys were in consecutive editions (Real vs. Atlético) and two correspond to direct endings with each other (13/14 in Lisbon and 15/16 in Milan).

With Merengue, Ronaldo beat Simeone in the final of 13/14, in the quarterfinals of 14/15, in the final of 15/16 and in the semis of 16/17. On 18/19, already at Juve, he also left him out in the round of 16 with a memorable match of his in the second leg of the series, in which he scored a hat-trick to come back from 0-2 in the first leg. If there is someone who can proclaim himself as the main executioner of the Colchonero, that is CR7. He is the player who has scored the most goals for Atleti since Simeone took over (21) and is his second favorite victim. He converted him in 25 opportunities (I had already scored four before he grabbed the Argentine DT at the end of 2011). Only Sevilla did more (27).
The one of this Wednesday will be the first time that the faces are seen with these teams, Man Utd and Atletico Madrid. The game will start at 5:00 p.m. (Argentine time) at the Wanda Metropolitano. The second leg will take place on Tuesday, March 15, at Old Trafford.
