Colo Colo basketball it is one of the branches most important sports in the history of the Cacique, achieving several triumphs at the national level and leaving the name of the institution in style.
Unfortunately, different events have hindered their normal functioning in recent years, experiencing some breaks in their activities after achieving the National Basketball League 2014-15.
Now the Cacique is preparing for a new return to the fields, since it will play the Third Division (Development League) of the National Basketball League, contest that has its beginning scheduled for September 2021 and that will have children under 23 years of age playing.
The Chilean Basketball Federation noted on its official website that “The first edition of the Development League (LDD) will be a guarantee of opportunities and basketball, a lot of basketball for the country’s young players. Once the application process before the Federation has been completed in due time and form, there will be 36 sports clubs that will be present at the 2021 event ”.
Diego Fuenzalida, Vice President of Sports of the CSD Colo-Colo, pointed out in the club’s official channels that “Our basketball branch project needs the impulse to professionalize the discipline and this Development League opens up a very good opportunity for the athletes who come from our bases to understand where we are and what we want as a club.”
“Being in the third division of national basketball, we will resume the practices of professionalism and that will open doors for us, not only in sports, but also in the social sphere, which is always important to us. In addition, this competition will allow us to get out of Santiago a bit and go to other places, which is something we always look for. We know that basketball in Chile is a sport that has a very good number of followers and our people, our members, partners and fans, like to have the branch running ”, Fuenzalida added.
