Chillanejo basketball family makes a positive balance and projects 2023

A positive balance of 2022 was made by the family of basketball from Chillanejo, after its protagonists were able to organize the local championship “Francisco Lagno Vera”, compete with Municipal Chillán in League Two and in the Chile Cup, and capture training work for the ladies and men categories.

Valentina Rojas, a player from the UBB, a team that was crowned champion of the Francisco Lagno Vera Tournament, declared “happy to have won, but above all that basketball is living again in Chillán. I would love for it to continue, more and more people are coming to support, more teams are joining, even from outside Chillán, I think it has a future, new generations are joining and also the old generations that continue to play, I have faith that this It will prosper.”

The coach of the champions, Abel Vargas, established that although the Sports Directorate carried out work aimed at growth, there are entities that must be added to strengthen basketball in its different levels. “I have a lot of hope, a good job is being done with Deportivo Municipal in the management aspect, I think the participation of the Basketball Association is missing, both can complement each other in a good way, it would be very good, so we would have more minutes of field, games and experience, which is what we are lacking at the national level”, said who also transferred part of the responsibility to the schools, which have practically no competition.

Jaime Díaz, basketball coordinator in the commune, valued the interventions in municipal schools, which allowed a diagnosis of the local reality and which is intended to improve ostensibly. “The main thing from now on is that there are clubs with people who have the intention of doing things, you have to work as a team, there can’t be one person who carries all the weight, it’s difficult to work alone, little by little it has been seen some light”. Díaz concluded that the challenge for 2023 is the final implementation of the Regional Basketball Association in which a large number of clubs with at least three training categories are expected, generating representation from the community.
