Given the lack of conditions to face the qualifying rounds for the Basketball World Cup, the Bolivian basketball team spoke at a press conference this Monday to demand “respect” from the members of the senior team in that discipline.

“We are not talking about 15 or 17 year olds, but 25 to 28 year olds who have already lived, who already have basketball experience. That they treat us like simple children, it is unfair, we ask for respect as it should be from each person, ”said the National Team coach, Giovanni Vargas, in a conference.

Through a virtual press conference, the players and coaching staff from Tarija said that it is not a youth team, but professionals who “have already lived” and have “experience in basketball.”

“We do not have to lie, things are done and said and we have messages and calls about the things that have been requested, the complaints that have been said,” added one of the squad players.

The team expressed its support for the Bolivian-American Joshua Reaves, who decided this weekend not to wear the green anymore, due to the mistreatment and lack of conditions for the team to train.

Reaves’ complaints came after the Bolivian team’s 91-57 victory over Ecuador at the weekend.

“These guys come to put their money, to do their part (…). We want to stay together, we want to keep this qualifying round together as far as we can go, but I’m sure many are going to think about attending, because the fact that they are not paid a penny and that they are given these deals, put of their money … Normally they would have to buy food to feed themselves better. It is these situations that will make our players think that they can continue in the national team, “said player Christian Camargo.

“They have to give them their place, that’s all they ask for, give them their place as a national team,” said the coach.
