Aldana Gayoso grows sportingly and personally in the Catalan club Igualada

Aldana liked all sports, but nothing compared to catching a basketball. From the first moment he played it, he couldn’t put it down. “My first memory is of when I played in the open field of Nacional, I really enjoyed playing there,” he says. Aldana gayoso on how his basketball story began. And although when she was younger and played with boys she had to hear from some parents “comments asking why she was doing it”, these insignificant sayings never stopped her.

After that event he traveled to Austria to dispute the Pre-Olympic 3×3 with the national team, being the smallest of the four representatives of Uruguay together with Florencia Somma, Sabina Bello and Victoria Pereyra, where they faced high-level players, belonging to Germany, France, the United States and Indonesia and showed an excellent level coming from a more basketball amateur, unlike the players of these countries who make a living from it.

Everything changed for Aldana in January of this year. “After the first time I was in contact with a team and throughout the championship they were very interested in me being part of the team; It didn’t cost me because it was something I wanted for a long time and I left alone ”, says the Alera about her arrival at the Catalan club Equalizer, team that plays in League 3 of Catalonia.

Her first approach to the club was from coach Rodrigo Marín, who put her in contact. “He suggested that I go to train there for a month and try it out, looking for the possibility of a team signing me and staying there.” And that was what actually happened with the Uruguayan.

His new home is in a small, quiet and uncrowded town. “Catalan is still difficult for me but I understand more as time goes by. They received me super well, obviously it is a process of adaptation but from the beginning it was with the best, ”says Aldana, who went alone to the Old Continent and does not have Uruguayans on her team.

“The biggest difference is the intensity in training, which in itself makes the level of the league better, but tactically it is very similar,” explains the Alera. The championship has just begun and his team, the Igualada Basketball Club, is currently playing the seventh round of League 3 in Catalonia.

“For now it is all very new, but as a person and a basketball player it is making me grow a lot,” says Aldana Gayoso.
