71-85. Unicaja catches air after crushing Obradoiro – Basketball – ABC Color

Santiago de Compostela, March 19 (EFE).- Shooting guard Darío Brizuela (24 points, PIR of 24) led Unicaja’s resounding victory against Monbus Obradoiro (71-85), with which he ended their worrying crisis of results, against a rival who was in tow throughout the first half and broke down in the second, when he struggled against the offensive festival of the people of Malaga.

The Galician coach, Moncho Fernández, had warned in the preview that his team’s options would be to match the physical battle of his rival. He was not wrong. With a suffocating defense, Unicaja destroyed Obradoiro. The partial 3-11 start was a sign of what would happen throughout the match.

The losses -13 at the break- and the continuous errors from the three-point line weighed down the Galician team, which arrived with some life at halftime (30-45) thanks to the success of Beliauskas and Philip Scrubb, the only ones who kept up the pace Brizuela’s scorer, Alberto Diaz and Cameron Oliver.

The start of the third quarter finished killing Obradoiro. Alberto Díaz, with a 3+1 basket, and Darío Brizuela, with a triple and another 2+1, shot the Malaga team (32-55), forcing Moncho Fernández to ask for time out. It didn’t help. His team’s disaster was huge, and his rival did not loosen up despite playing with advantages of more than 20 points.

Obradoiro had a threat of reaction in the last quarter but Brizuela, with another triple, silenced the Galician pavilion. With just over a minute to go, Ibon Navarro made Mario Saint-Supèry debut in the Endesa league at just 15 years and 11 months, after giving him minutes in the Champions League against Oostende. He is the fifth youngest player to debut in ACB.
