Starting next October 27, the 2021-2022 season of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM) will begin, with a match between the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Gigantes del Cibao as the highlight of the opening day, the same teams that discussed the last Dominican baseball title.

In view of this start of the campaign, the Eagles published an exclusive piece of news on their official Instagram social network account that congratulates Cuban baseball and all its followers, and that is that the veteran pitcher from Pinar del Río Yunesky maya will be in charge of opening from the mound the match that breaks the calendar for his team.

Beyond her seniority and long career, Maya has established herself in winter baseball in the Dominican Republic, being a regular in the pitching rotations of the most important teams in the league and imposing all her experience and quality. Especially with Aguilas Cibaeñas has created a successful bond since they have been champions together twice, in 2017-2018 and most recently in 2020-2021.

Along with the announcement to give the ball to the Cuban on the opening day, a short video was published in which he offered statements about this responsibility, here are his words:

“… With the news I got upset, I am very happy, it is very nice news for me. I felt strong and I took it with the character that it takes to be the pitcher of an Opening Day … we are going to work so that the team has a good presentation and succeeds ”

Since the previous season, Yunesky Maya made history in Dominican baseball by becoming the foreigner with the most titles in the entire history of the league with five. His championships won are divided between Tigres del Licey 2013-2014, two with Estrellas Orientales 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 and those previously mentioned with his current team in 2017-2018 and 2020-2021.

Undoubtedly, on October 27, all eyes will be on the opening day of LIDOM, to closely and expectantly follow the performance of a “Warrior” of a thousand battles and true Cuban pride.
