On the night of this Friday, October 22, at Minute Maid Park in the city of Houston, Texas, the Astros team overcame by shutout 5-0 to the Boston Red Sox in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series to win the 4-2 match and advance to this season’s MLB 2021 World Series.

The manager of the siderales, the veteran Dusty Baker, euphorically raised the trophy that credits them as champions of the young circuit of the Major Leagues, for the fourth time in its history.

At the end of the game, the Cuban outfielder and designated hitter, Yordan alvarez, was selected the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the series, due to his fierce offensive production, marking an undeniable leadership in the Houston team.

«There are many things behind this, it is something very great. If I’m honest, I say that I never dreamed of this moment. I was in the dugout wondering if what was happening was reality. I’m super happy and excited, ”Yordan told MLB.com reporter John Morosi, visibly excited after receiving the important award.

«I have to thank many things, starting with Cuba, that my people do not have the possibility to watch the games, although they look for a way to do it, they send me videos and that fills me with emotion and pride. It’s incredible all the support I receive… and what to say about the fans here in Houston, it’s incredible and I think the result is due to them too ».

Yordan has a small son of only three months and for him there was also a message: “This is something that will remain for the whole story, it is something that I will be able to tell him when he grows up, it is an unforgettable experience that I am living.”

“He was super focused. I think it is the result of all the support that I have received from the guys since I joined the team. Everybody knows the kind of hitters and the team we have. For me we are all MVPs and we are super happy and motivated by the result, “added the Cuban to MLB.com

Injuries in 2020 and current reality

«First of all, thank God because I owe everything to him for the result. I came out of those two knee surgeries (last year) and I really did not imagine all this so soon, after having gone through that, but nothing, we are here, everything is fine and the results are coming out ».

A triple in Game 6

“I hit the ball and first thought of a double, but when I got to first base and saw that there was no one near the ball, I decided to keep going, I didn’t look back and kept going.”

Scores 2-0 with a grounder to first base

«On the play, when I saw that the ball stung, I went quickly to the plate trying to avoid the double play. (Schwarber) got a little tangled up with the ball at first base and gave me time to score.

Manager Dusty Baker

«I have to thank him a lot because he has helped me a lot since he joined the team. Last year I was not able to be with him much but since spring training. He played ball, he knows what each player feels on a daily basis and I think that has helped the team a lot as well.

Astros sign stealing

«From the first day the problem came up (publicly) the idea was always to show that we are a good team. In 2017 I was not part of the team but this year I have received boos and things as if I had been. I join the team and I have the same desire of all the boys to show that we were champions in 2017 for the talent of each one.

The Houston Astros, with Yordan as the offensive leader, wait for the result of the match between the Dodgers and Braves, which will be decided this weekend in Atlanta, to meet their rival in the 2021 MLB World Series.
