Yasmani Grandal undergoes right knee surgery

By Dency Milan

Chicago White Sox starting receiver Yasmani Grandal underwent surgery to correct the problem in the knee, which led him to miss part of the 2021 regular season of Big leagues.

Grandal recently underwent knee surgery (right), as the receiver himself let it be known on his official account on Instagram, and it was broadcast by James Fegan of Athletics.

The Cuban-born has participated in 10 Major League Baseball-MLB seasons, since he was chosen in the 2010 Draft, in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds, general selection number 12. During his career he has been part of four franchises, three in the National League and one in the American. Three with the San Diego Padres (2012-2014), four with the Dodgers (2015-2018), one with the Brewers (2019) and two with their current team Los Chicago White Sox.

Grandal spent nearly two months on the disabled list this year due to a torn knee tendon, though it didn’t seem to hinder him at all at the plate. In 93 games, he hit .240 / .420 / .520, for a 159 wRC +, well above his previous career-high at the Big Show. His defensive numbers had a notable downward trend in 2021, although it is not an aspect to take into account, because of how important the knees are for a receiver and Grandal’s did not remain healthy.

In the 2021 season, the Habanero left a fixed line of .240 offensive average, with 23 homers, 62 RBIs, 87 walks and 82 strikeouts, in addition to an OPS of .940, as the highlight of the season.

The ambidextrous is guaranteed 36.5 million over the next two years, which makes his recovery from this procedure very important for the aspirations of the White Sox, because the Cuban is a fundamental piece within the nucleus of the ‘white leg’ team.

El ‟Yaz”, as he is affectionately known, left a few words for fans on his Instagram profile:

‟To say that this year was a difficult learning process is an understatement. I want to thank my beautiful wife for always understanding, even after having to schedule my second surgery on our 9th anniversary. You are always looking forward. Reminding me and assuring me that everything will be okay. With that said I want to thank the White Sox fans for such an amazing year. I can’t wait to see you again. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, but I can guarantee this, it’s going to be a hell of a trip on the south side. So put your seatbelt on. See you soon”

The White Sox are coming off two consecutive play-off appearances, in addition to the pennant this season, with the continuity of manager Tony La Russa at the helm, Yasmani grandal He will be one of the most important props of the team and his position on defense requires continuity, health and good performances. Apparently the Cuban is taking all the measures in the offseason to get ready for the 2022 season.

Prompt recovery to ‟Yaz”!
