Yankees pressure Mets over possible signing of Javier Baez

The New York Yankees they hope to go after Javier Baez in case the Mets of New York do not extend their contract in the term given by the MLB.

What term is that?

When a player is a free agent, his most recent team has 20 days to negotiate alone with his player without the player receiving offers or calls from another team. However, if the deadline is met, there come the other offers.

The pressure of the Yankees

The Mets are going to have that deadline with Javier Báez, a time where many teams are going to pray that they don’t sign the extension and let him go to free agency, that’s where they are going to try to make him fall in love.

According to Mets insider Andy Martino, the Mules go all out after Javier Baez if he doesn’t extend his contract, that creates great pressure on the Mets.

In fact, Baez made it pretty clear that he’s also willing to stay in New York for the long haul.

“When I was in Chicago I never thought they were going to change me. I never thought I was with another organization, ”said Báez. “And after I came here, things have been different, but at the same time good.

“I feel like I needed this to get to know myself a little more and work a little harder.”

An additional aspect that has helped Baez feel more comfortable in his new situation comes from the close friendship he has with his double-game partner, Francisco Lindor.

“Obviously, Frankie wants me to stay,” Baez said. “He wants to make sure they make an offer if possible, and see what happens in the offseason.”

Baez had a good season finale and was able to cover a bit how badly he was doing in the regular season with the Chicago Cubs, his bat flared in September, his strikeout rate low and his defense alike improved.

The Yankees had Gleyber Torres at shortstop for most of last season, but the move didn’t work out as Torres struggled defensively and was eventually carried back to second base with Gio Urshela moving short. The Bombers have a lot of questions heading into the offseason, and figuring out their infield setup for next season and beyond may be the foremost of them.
