Yankees have three infielder prospects who promise MLB success but aren’t ready yet

The Yankees are absolutely full of shortstops on their farms, a rather curious situation since at the Big leagues manager Aaron Boone and the board are looking for a shortstop to strengthen the team in 2022. In addition to the top 100 prospects Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza and the 2021 first-round pick Trey Sweneythey also have Roderick Arias (MLB Pipeline’s highest-rated prospect in the 2021-22 international class), Oswaldo Cabrera (29 home runs last year between Double-A and Triple-A). Alexander Vargas, Hans Montero and more.

New York has high expectations every season, but the club has also been willing to play with talented young prospects. Peraza likely needs at least half a season at Triple-A and Volpe and Sweeney aren’t ready until 2023, so it’s not like they’re ready now and locked out at the major league level. I could see the New York infield in the future not too far with Volpe at second base, Peraza at shortstop and Sweeney at third base. All three of those guys have very tempting bats.

The Yankees are anxious for the winter market to resume, as they have an appointment pending with the free agents that remain available. The vacancy at shortstop left by Gleyber Torres is the priority to sign for the Bronx front office for the remainder of the offseason. It’s a shame the aforementioned up-and-coming prospects aren’t quite ready to make the jump to the big leagues right now.

Since I was a child, I have always been passionate about baseball and other sports, such as football, American football, boxing and basketball. My favorite MLB teams are the Dodgers and the Red Sox. My big dream is to one day attend a game at the legendary Fenway Park.
