There is no doubt that for the last 10 years, the banner of pitching for the New York Yankees was the legendary CC Sabathia, who was one of the last survivors of that championship 2009 World Series roster on the Bronx Bombers. It is very probable that Sabathia ends up entering the Hall of Fame, but his career was not clean of excesses, addictions and demons that the pitcher had to tame.
Sabathia will soon release her autobiographical book “Until The End”, in which he details several of the most important, dark and famous passages of his time in MLB baseball and mainly, his stay in the New York Yankees. One of the most personal issues that CC touches on in her book is her fight against her addiction to alcohol, which caused her to go through many “bitter drinks” in her personal and professional life.
In a part of his book, Sabathia mentions that one of his most embarrassing moments was an occasion when rapper Jay-Z invited him to a super exclusive party in the Dominican Republic, in which he ended up completely drunk and naked, after having him promised his wife Amber that he would not drink during the party.
Drinking helped calm my nerves, so I thought that drinking more helped me more. Once I started drinking at the party, I didn’t know how to stop. People say that the party was over until 5 in the morning. All I remember is my wife Amber waking me up. He found me lying in the hotel corridor, drunk and naked. Someone had covered my butt with a towel. Fortunately, no one else mentioned it afterwards. I don’t want to think who else could have seen me like this.
For many, many years, Sabathia completely lost control of his drinking, but fortunately in 2015 he called for help and entered rehab, struggling to stay sober since then with considerable success for the former New York Yankees pitcher.
