World Series: Joc Pederson could be ninth to pull off rare SM feat

The term “October” has been used a lot this month, and for good reason. Right fielder Joc Pederson of the Atlanta Braves, he’s slugging .586 this postseason and is making his mark in more ways than one.

First, there were pinch-hit home runs in the Games 1 and 3 of the National League Division Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, both against the young right-hander Adrian Houser, that made him the third player in history with two in a single postseason series and tied the record for a career postseason:

And then there are the pearls. Pederson’s pearl necklace, which he began wearing toward the end of the season, has become one of the hallmarks of the Braves’ career. They are worn by fans to games at Truist Park, and several Atlanta Falcons (NFL) players wore them to board the team plane Saturday night.

Of course, another big reason for the October term is Pederson’s familiarity with the postseason. Entering the World Series, he has played 74 career postseason games, and 64 of those came with the Dodgers from 2015-20.

That means he won a World Series title with the Dodgers a year ago. Now, with the Braves in the Fall Classic, he has a chance to perform a rare feat: win the World Series in back-to-back seasons with different teams.

How rare is it? I’m glad you asked. Only eight players in MLB history have won a World Series in consecutive seasons with two different teams, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Here, winning the World Series is defined as playing at least one postseason game for the champions. Here’s a look at the exclusive roster Pederson is trying to join:

I am fond of the King of Sports, especially the Boston Red Sox in MLB and in general all of Mexican baseball. This profession has given me the opportunity to cover major events such as the Caribbean Series, LMB All Star, LMP (uninterrupted since 2009), signings of important players. I had the chance to attend the 2013 World Classic in Arizona, USA, albeit as a fan. Apart from this beautiful sport, I love basketball, where I have also narrated games and even an NBA friendly 10 years ago, but I carry baseball in my veins. Bachelor of Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) , from which I graduated in 2011. I was born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa and started in the world of sports journalism in 2004 in the newspaper El Sol de Mazatlán, where I was a baseball columnist and reporter at the same time. In January 2009 I came to El Debate as a journalist reporter and it was almost six years (in the first stage), until in November 2014 I emigrated to the radio providing my services at Línea Directa-Grupo RSN. My cycle there ended in July 2019 and after a few days, El Debate gave me another opportunity to work and opened the doors for me again. That is how I came to Al Bat, where I have been since 2019 as a web journalist.
