Why would the Yankees sign Story and not Correa or another elite SS in free agency?

Looming “fiery” winter negotiations during the cold season in the United States, after this year several elite shortstop on MLB will become free agents.

Among those that stand out are: Trevor story (Rockies), Carlos Correa (Astros), Javier Baez (Mets) and Corey seager (Dodgers). One of the teams that would be urgently looking to sign one of them are the New York Yankees, who have had difficulties finding a good heir in that position after Derek Jeter’s retirement (2014) and Didi Gregorius’s departure (2019).

However, one of the four short stop bigwigs who will sail into free agency shortly would have a hand in landing in the Big Apple and wearing the classic striped uniform.

Given the great friendship he has with DJ LeMahieu, his former teammate in the Colorado Rockies, Trevor Story looms as the leading candidate to bolster New York, even above the rest of the torpedo bombers already mentioned.

Although Carlos Correa officially announced to The Athletic that he will not renew with the Astros In the future, a hypothetical signing with the Bronx Mules seems to be a long way off, because let’s not forget that several high-profile elements in the club such as Aaron Judge, for example, have had pits and fights with the Houston players who cheated in in 2017 with the famous and controversial scheme they designed to steal signs.

Regarding Corey Seager, Dodgers executives have indicated that they will likely try to extend him for several more seasons. While around Javy Báez, his future looks more uncertain than ever, given his poor performance in recent years.
