White Sox lose Lynn to torn knee

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Chicago White Sox starting pitcher lance lynnwill undergo a 30-minute procedure on his right knee Tuesday after an MRI revealed a slight tear in a tendon, general manager Rick Hahn announced Sunday.

Lynn, 34, will be off the mound for four weeks, which means she will likely miss 6-8 weeks of the regular season.

“It’s part of the game,” Hahn said Sunday afternoon. “I know we have a very deep and talented roster. Like all clubs, we’re going to face some adversity in the next seven months. The strength of the guys in the locker room and the coaching room will serve us well.”

Lynn had some minor knee issues last season, which the White Sox believe are likely the root cause of his current ailment. “A surgical procedure was not requested until this occurred [el desgarro]Hahn said.

Lynn was stellar in 2021, compiling a 2.69 ERA. The team re-signed him for two more years last July, even though he missed a couple of starts with a knee problem. He now he will miss up to two months.

“Once this issue is addressed and resolved, it should be behind us for the future,” Hahn said. “It’s unfortunate that we have to spend the first few weeks without Lance. It provides an opportunity for some of the other arms.”

Those arms include righties Reynaldo Lopez and Vince Velasquezthough Hahn did not rule out leaving the organization for more help.

The injury occurs immediately after the left-handed reliever Garrett Crochet would need Tommy John surgery and the exchange of Craig Kimbrel to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has left the White Sox a little thin on the mound. He also leaves no doubt as to who will be the Opening Day starter. Lucas Giolito he completed his spring on Sunday and is set to pitch the team’s first game on Friday against the Detroit Tigers.

Both Giolito and Lynn will have a new catcher to throw to. The White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays traded backups when Zack Collins was sent to Toronto for reese mcguire.

“We see him as a very strong defensive backup,” Hahn said of McGuire. “Solid at framing and lateral movement, as well as catching and throwing and managing a game plan and managing a pitching staff.”
