The Cuba team fell spectacularly to Venezuela in its debut in the Super Round of the III U-23 Baseball World Cup, with a wide 11 × 0 slate, KO after five full innings, as stipulated by the rules of the event.

The most significant change in line up Antillean manager Eriel Sánchez was the replacement for Iván Prieto after compiling 0-for-15 in the first five matches of the tournament. (All the statistics of the Cuba team in the qualifying phase, both pitching and hitting, you can see them in this link)

Venezuela broke zero in the very first at-bat with a home run of center field Carlos Rodríguez against starter Bryan Chi (1.0 IP, 6 H, 5 CL, 1 BB, 2 K, 37 PIT). Three hits and two tickets from the industrialist right-hander caused the 2 × 0 in the first inning.

Another four stripes made the morochos in the second act with a pair of doubles and another homerun, this time signed by left patrolman Romer Cuadrado, putting a 6X0 lead on the board that already seemed impossible for the Cubans to reach.

Carlos Rodríguez added a cannon shot in the third inning to his biangular and flies close to be one rung of the ladder and impose the 8 × 0 against the shipments of Granma reliever Kelbis Rodríguez. Pair of tubeyes in the room inning led to 9 × 0. The South Americans sealed the challenge 11 × 0 with a close-coupled homer from receiver Juan Fernández. In total, they hit .517 at the Cuban pitching (15-of-29) with five doubles and three missing balls.

The victory of the clash corresponded to the right Jesús Vargas. The one signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers threw 5.0 innings with the same number of hits (four of them connected by Guillermo García and Yandi Yánez) against and 73 shipments to the home. He struck out five opponents without giving away transfers.
