Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander, Trevor bauer, faces accusations of assault by a woman, derived from a previous sexual encounter.
The Pasadena, California, police department said it is investigating the alleged assault, which it says occurred in mid-May. The case could be turned over to the district attorney’s office as soon as Wednesday, a source told ESPN.
The woman received a domestic violence restraining order in Los Angeles County Superior Court against Bauer, according to her attorney, Marc Garelick, who alleged in a statement that his client “suffered severe physical and emotional pain” as a result of a Bauer’s “recent assault.”
Garelick released a statement Tuesday, writing: “Our goal is to prevent Mr. Bauer from communicating with our client in any way possible. We anticipate that there will be criminal action against Mr. Bauer, and we hope that the police will take up the allegations of our client. And I’m serious “.
Bauer’s agent, Jon Fetterolf, issued a lengthy statement to ESPN denying any allegations on his client’s behalf. In the statement, Fetterolf described the relationship as “consensual” and called the woman’s accusations “baseless” and “defamatory.”
ESPN has chosen not to name the woman, although Garelick used her name in comments to TMZ and Fetterolf named her in his statement.
