The Cuban season could be described as a dream Elian Leyva with the Naranjeros of Hermosillo. After four seasons in the strongest circuit of Aztec baseball, the one born in the current province of Mayabeque established himself and was awarded with the «Vicente `H» Trophyuevo´ Romo”, to the best Pitcher of the Year, chosen by the specialized press.

A total of 12 starts and 70 entries was what Leyva worked in the regular stage, in which he allowed only 14 runs, 12 of them clean, for an extraordinary PCL of 1.54, the best of all. Likewise, he commanded the departments of games won, with seven, average of the opponents, with 205 and WHIP with just 0.99 (50 hits and 19 walks).

As a complement, Elian struck out 54 rivals, for an average of 6.94 per nine innings. Plus, his control was excellent, with a 2.84 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Which led him to only suffer two defeats in the entire campaign.

Another milestone reached by the Cuban during the year was on October 8, 2021, during his first start of the season, the clean fourth inning in the history of the Pacific League, dominating in the third inning, Jorge Rivera, Édgar Robles and Isaac Rodríguez of the Los Mochis Cañeros, with nine pitches and three strikeouts.

80 percent of the votes of the specialists favored Elian, leaving a minority for his partner Wilmer Ríos, 6%, David Holmberg of the Mayos de Navojoa and Jake Sánchez of the Águilas de Mexicali, 5% while Héctor Velázquez, of the Yaquis of Obregón, and Octavio Acosta, of the Mayos of Navojoa, completed the vote with 2% each.

Elián Leyva worked only one game in the postseason, and he did it excellently for 6.1 innings, at a rate of five strikeouts, four hits and without giving away walks; Despite this, he had no decision in the clash. He then tested positive for a PCR and was unable to work for the remainder of that series. When his team fell in the first round, he was selected by the Charros de Jalisco as his second reinforcement, but in a surprise move, he was transferred to the Gigantes del Cibao, of the Dominican League (LIDOM).
