The reason why Michael Conforto has not signed according to Scott Boras

Outfielder Michael Conforto has not signed with any team in the MLB so far, however, his agent brings a reason.

The free agent outfielder Michael Comfort resumed contract negotiations with teams after recovering from a shoulder injury he suffered diving for a ball during practice in January, his agent Scott Boras said, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal.

Boras added that Conforto wanted to make a full recovery before making a decision about his future as a player.

“Everyone has been wondering if it’s cheap,” Boras said. “No, it’s just that he’s getting back to normal (physically).”

Conforto turned down a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer to return to the New York Mets after a poor season that saw him finish with 14 home runs and a .729 OPS in 125 games.

Boras said the qualifying offer hasn’t been as big an issue as the shoulder in terms of why the former All-Star remains unsigned with Opening Day just over a week away, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Conforto entered the offseason as one of the best outfielders available in free agency. The 29-year-old hit a career-high 33 home runs in 2019 and has a .255/.346/.468 slash line with 132 RBIs and 396 RBIs in seven seasons with the Mets.
