The Pirates of Cabo Rojo refuse to lose at the start of Double A Baseball

The Pirates of Cabo Rojo continued their unbeaten record by winning 8-4 over Cafeteros de Yauco this Friday in action from the 2022 Double A Superior Baseball season.

Cabo Rojo registers perfect performance in the leadership of the Southwest with a record of 7-0while Yauco plays for 1-6 in the basement, the Baseball Federation reported in a press release.

It was a game dominated by the Pirates from the very first inning, with four runs. Right-hander Miguel Mejía pitched six innings to win the game. Two of the four runs he allowed were unearned. He struck out seven batters and walked one.

In the same section, veteran pitcher Omar ‘El Seco’ Martínez reached his 700th strikeout in the Cardenales de Lajas’ 2-1 victory over the Petroleros de Peñuelas. The Lajeños won this challenge with just one connected hit.

In the East, the Cariduros de Fajardo crushed the Cocoteros de Loíza 18-8. The star pitcher Jean Félix Ortega won the 78th victory of his successful career. He covered the first six innings with four hits allowed and two runs. For the Cariduros offense, Johnnuelle Ponce hit two homers and Irving Falú disappeared the ball with the bases loaded.

What’s more, The Mulos de Juncos defeated the Artesanos de Las Piedras 2-1 with left-hander Luis Cintrón all the way. Both teams now share the section lead at 5-2. Cintrón struck out 10 of the 35 batters he faced.

For their part, the Guerrilleros de Río Grande savored their first victory by defeating the Halcones de Gurabo 4-1, thanks to an effective combination of pitchers Orlando Díaz and Christian Meléndez.

Cayey with five wins in a row

in the Center, The Toritos de Cayey extended their winning streak to five by defeating the Polluelos de Aibonito 11-0 with six solid innings from right-hander Jesús Ortiz. In this meeting, Christian Torres went 5-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Kevin Luciano also stood out by towing three laps and Kevin Pérez with five runs scored.

In the Metro, the Lancheros de Cataño added their fifth win in a row and are alone in first place after beating the Guaynabo Mets 5-2.
