The LBPRC takes away the Crabbers franchise from Thomas Axon

The Board of Directors of the Professional Baseball League today revoked the rights granted to Thomas Axon to manage and operate the Santurce Crabbers franchise.

The decision also removes the American millionaire resident of Puerto Rico as a member of the LBPRC.

The League made the announcement in a statement.

“The Board of Directors of the Puerto Rico Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League ratified the recommendation made by the organization’s president, Juan A. Flores Galarza, to revoke the rights granted to the Cangrejeros de Santurce Baseball Club, LLC; Sports Society Cangrejeros de Santurce, Inc.; and to Santurce Merchandising, LLC (collectively referred to hereinafter as SCBC, LLC) to manage and operate the Santurce Cangrejeros franchise and, in turn, separate them as members of the LBPRC,” the league wrote in a statement.

Thursday’s action is a sequel to administrative events that began in March with the league’s decision to order Axon’s removal as owner. The decision later changed to a two-year suspension. Axon sued in April and lost the case in the Court of First Instance.

The league took these actions with the understanding that Axon was acting against the best interests of the League in its claim to the municipality of San Juan for necessary improvements to Hiram Bithorn Stadium, home of the Cangrejeros. The league then said that while the claims were legitimate, the adversarial way of filing them was wrong.

The League’s statement reveals that there was just a meeting between the board and the Cangrejeros de Santurce. The hearing held on May 31 was argumentative. In the end, the League made the decision to withdraw the administration from the members of the Cangrejeros, which ratified Flores Galarza’s recommendation.

“As president of the Board of Directors, I can confirm that we carry out this process in accordance with the provisions of our Constitution, which governs all the actions of the LBPRC. Both parties had equal time to present their arguments at the hearing and we made the decision based on the evidence presented,” said the member of the Board and owner of the Criollos de Caguas champions, Raúl Rodríguez Font.

According to the Constitution, according to the decision made, the Cangrejeros de Santurce franchise automatically passes to the LBPRC, which owns all the teams attached to the Roberto Clemente league.
