The Cuban pitching in Mexico SHOWED, MARCARON Santos, Serrano and Mustelier. Winter Cuban Summary

By Juan Páez

Despite the fact that batting was not the protagonist, the day of this Tuesday in the Mexican Pacific League was of pure brilliance for the Cuban pitching. Among the five commitments that were on the Aztec circuit undercard, there was an Antillean starter duel, three starters in total and a closer who was on top. All with good performance.

First we must mention the confrontation that Elián Leyva and Yoennis Yera had, in the Algodoneros 4 × 2 victory against Naranjeros in 10 entries.

In that commitment, Leyva showed that he is up for great things in the 2021-2022 season of the Mexican tournament with Naranjeros. Although he went without a decision, he threw 7.0 scoreless episodes, in which he allowed only two hits, walked one and retired six by way of the third strike. Thanks to starting the season with 18.0 innings without earned runs, his ERA remains at 0.00. He has received nine hits and has 19 strikeouts.

As for his counterpart Yera, he threw 5.2 innings for Guasave and received eight hits and two well-deserved stripes. In his work, he walked two and struck out six, a performance that brought his ERA to 1.62.

One who did take the victory was Carlos Viera, in the victory of Cañeros de Los Mochis 6 × 3 against the Águilas de Mexicali. The islander right-hander, who won for the first time of the year (1-2), finished his job after 5.0 innings of five hits, two earned runs, a pair of walks and four fans (5.52 PCL).

His teammate Daysbel Hernández was part of the game and his third save of the season was credited. The right-hander allowed a hit, but retired the ninth without major problems, including a strikeout. His ERA continues to drop, and he parked at 3.38.

On offense, Roel Santos and Maikel Serrano singled for Mayos de Navojoa in a 9-0 loss to Tomateros de Culiacán. Santos went 3-1, with a walk, strikeout and out in an attempted steal (.275), while Serrano finished 2-1, with a walk (.386). For Culiacán, Yoelkis Guibert had no luck, failing in his three valid chances, with a scored, a ticket and a ball received (.227).

For Mexicali, Ronnier Mustelier also gave a single, added a passport and swallowed a chocolate (.280).

Blank: Henry Urrutia (Sultanes de Monterrey), 4-0, with an RBI (3), a walk and two errors (3) (.283); Yadir Drake (Algodoneros de Guasave), 4-0, with transfer and strikeout (.297); and Josuan Hernández (Cañeros de Los Mochis), 3-0, with a return to the table, a walk and a fan (.244).
