The Yankees need a shortstop, but Correa may exceed his budget. It’s not that New York doesn’t have the financial muscle to cover that contract, but they have other things to consider.
On one side are the salary commitments to Gerrit Cole and Giancarlo Stanton. Also the fact that they must negotiate an extension with Aaron Judge. In addition, they are obligated to get a top-notch pitcher for the starting rotation.
With so many pending, signing Correa – despite all his talent and what he can bring to the squad – is probably not the best decision.
