Braun made the announcement of his retirement through a video posted by the Brewers on Twitter:

Thanks

While it was impossible for Braun to summarize his emotions, what he felt is one simple thing: gratitude. I just wanted to take a moment to say “thank you,” he said in part of the video.

Achievements

Braun was as a Major League Baseball player:

  • Rookie of the Year 2007
  • 6 All-Star Games
  • 5 Silver Bats

Dark side

Braun was involved in doping issues and caused controversy for his MVP.

Mea culpa and family

As far as I can remember, Braun pissed off the doping issue and also decided to spend more time with his family when he started walking away from the field based on his mind not being on baseball until the retirement decision he announced today.

What he lacked

Braun only missed playing the World Series with the Brewers and was close in 2018, when they fell just one game away in 2018, when they lost the National League Championship Series in seven (7) games to the Los Dodgers. Angeles, a series they could have won.

Brewers 2021

The Brewers are close to qualifying for the postseason as NL Central Champions and reaching the World Series and winning it would be a welcome tribute and recognition for Braun in the year of his retirement.
