The Boston Red Sox finish the New York Yankees 6-2 at historic Fenway Park and eliminate their hated rivals.
Just a few days ago, the Yankees had swept Boston’s last six games of the season, but the Red Sox proved to be more in this first time seeing each other in an American League Wild Card Game.
Xander Bogaerts and Kyle Schwarber led the victory with home runs off Gerrit Cole, who did not make it past the third inning. Nathan Eovaldi didn’t allow a touchdown until just the sixth inning. Bogaerts was back at it to retire Aaron Judge at the plate when the Yankees appeared to mount an attack.
The Red Sox will play the first round of the playoffs against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, October 7 (5:07 pm), in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Boston will visit in the first two games, then it will be home in the third and fourth games, to finally close in Tampa Bay, in case a fifth game is necessary.
