Reasons not to worry so much about Luis Severino

The pitcher of the New York Yankees, Luis Severino, has not been very good in the Spring Training of the MLB 2021.

Louis Severino has made two starts as a starter in Spring Training with the New York Yankees, and has been removed at the wrong time from the mound. However, it is not to believe that the end of his career is near or that it is all on his part in the MLB.

Outings in Spring Training:

  • 2 IP, 4 hits, 4 runs, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 1.4 IP, 4 H, 3 runs, 4 BB and 0 K.

In 2019 Severino only made 3 starts, missing all of 2020 and returning at the end of the 2021 season as a reliever.

What can you expect?

Sevy is coming off an offseason in which he was unable to contact the New York Yankees’ main doctors or coaches all the time due to the work stoppage, but he continued to make a full recovery bit by bit on his own.

The important thing is that Luis Severino maintains a reasonable speed from 95 to 98 miles, a slider of up to 87 miles and a change of 86. And above all, he has not presented any physical discomfort.

His problem so far has been pitch control, he has submitted undercounting against hitters, and it is clear that there are things to correct in his mechanics as he regains starting time.

This has been years without pitching as a starter and it was to be expected that he would not return taking outs or “jacob degrom” mode, not all starting pitchers after so much time without pitching long innings can return to being the stellar they once were.

It should be noted that Luis Severino, even with two seasons in the Majors, sought help from the legendary Pedro Martínez to improve his mechanics and thus achieve success as the New York Yankees’ main starter.

What makes you think that at this point you don’t have things to improve like your mechanics?

Yankees manager Aaron Boone believes that Severino’s problems can be fixed as Spring Training and even the regular season pass.

To remember: Severino did not do badly as a reliever at the end of last season, in about six innings he only gave up 2 hits, 1 BB, 8 K and 0 allowed runs. However, they want it by opening games like in the old days in the MLB.
