ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves’ left fielder, Eddie rosario, and the Houston Astros shortstop, Carlos Correa, both Puerto Ricans, set a pair of postseason records Saturday at Truist Park in Game 4 of the Major League Baseball World Series.
Rosario hit a pitch from right Zack greinke in the third inning to reach 22 hits in 14 games and break the tie he had with Correa (2017) and outfielder Bernie Williams and receiver Iván Rodríguez (2003) for the mark of a Puerto Rican player in a postseason.
In the sixth inning, Rosario doubled through right field to extend his mark to 23 hits.
Correa towed the Venezuelan Jose Altuve with rolled down third base in the first inning to reach 57 RBIs, a record for the Astros franchise and the sixth-most of all time.
Williams (80), Dominican outfielder Manny Ramírez (78), David Justice (63), Dominican designated hitter David Ortiz (61) and Hall of Famer shortstop Derek Jeter (6) are the only ones to beat Strap.
Correa is also the fifth Puerto Rican with 10 or more RBIs in the World Series. The others are Williams and the receivers Yadier Molina, Jorge Posada and Sandy Alomar.
Rosario, who is hitting .423 (52-22) is one of seven players since 2000 who has averaged above .420 in a full major league postseason. The Venezuelan infielder Gleyber Torresof the New York Yankees was last, hitting .435 in 2020.
Brett Boone (.370 in 1999) was the last Atlanta player to finish a postseason with a batting average above .365.
