MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Byron Buxton and Luis Arraez each had three hits and Dylan Bundy got his first win in a uniform for the Minnesota Twins, who beat the Seattle Mariners 4-0 on Monday. .
The Twins, who hit six homers on Sunday, began the day as the major league leaders in that department with nine homers. On Monday, Minnesota didn’t homer for the first time this season, but it scored enough to split a four-game series with the Mariners.
After Jorge Polanco doubled to drive in the first run of the game in the same first inning, the Twins clinched three straight singles in the fifth inning. Arraez, Polanco and Gio Urshela provided RBI hits to give Minnesota a 4-0 lead.
That was enough of a lead for Bundy (1-0), who pitched five scoreless innings in his Minnesota appearance. The right-hander allowed just one hit, a one-out double in the second inning. He struck out two and walked one.
Bundy had a career-low 6.06 ERA in 23 games last season with the Angels, but the Twins signed him hoping he would pick up his game and bolster Minnesota’s rotation.
Chris Flexen (0-1) got the backhand in his season debut. The right-hander allowed three runs and five hits in 4 1/3 innings on the mound. Flexen was coming off winning 14 games in his first year with Seattle in 2021 after spending the 2020 season in South Korea.
For the Twins, Venezuelan Arráez 4-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The Dominicans Polanco 3-2 with two produced; Gary Sanchez 4-1; Miguel Sano 3-0. The Colombian Urshela 4-1 with an RBI. Puerto Rican Carlos Correa 4-0 with a run scored.
