Pablo Sandoval has made it clear that he wants to play again in the MLB. The Venezuelan utility man was released midway through the 2021 season by the Cleveland Guardians, who received him from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Eddie Rosario.
Sandoval does not play at least 100 games in the Big leagues since 2019, when he wore the jersey of the San Francisco Giants. It was his second spell with the club that he helped win the World Series three times.
His problems with weight and injuries and a decline in his performance have lowered the profile of the Venezuelan, who in search of a new contract returned to the LVBP, the league of his country, in which he did not appear since the 2012-13 campaign.
With the Navegantes del Magallanes Sandoval has looked good, although he has just admitted that he has been playing with shoulder pain.
In the regular season he left an offensive line of .314/.398/.448 with 19 RBIs and a home run. He missed a few games in the round robin and came back cold, averaging .191, 1 home run and 8 RBIs.
In three games he has played in the final against Caribes de Anzoátegui, he has improved his average to .429, has already got his first homer and has three charters.
Despite his numbers, Sandoval hasn’t received offers from major league teams, not even with a minor league contract. That could change after the MLB lockout.
At the moment, he is considering a proposal in another circuit. “Yes, there is a source from Japanese baseball,” he told El Emergente. “Whatever God wants, I would love to go to Asian baseball, I am not closed to any offer.”
