Official press blames embargo for deterioration of baseball in Cuba

The official press, as a spokesperson for the Cuban government, blamed the United States embargo for the deterioration that baseball currently has and shows that low level is the exclusion of the island team from the Tokyo Olympics.

The regime regrets that it does not charge the Japanese clubs with Cuban players for training of athletes and accuses the financial persecution of the United States of not directly entering the money that INDER charges for the presence of athletes in these events. .

Between April 2020 and March 2021, the Cuban sports system stopped earning about $ 6 million due to the economic sanctions imposed by the United States on the communist government in Havana, according to official data.

For the sports commentator Anibal Oliva Yañez, a Cuban public radio and television worker from 2001 to 2016, that they only negotiate in dollars is the fault of the inefficiency of the INDER Legal Department.

“They have a lot of ignorance in contractual matters and therefore they have to bend to this type of thing because they don’t know what to do,” he told CiberCuba.

The commentator, who has lived in Uruguay for 5 years, considers that the athlete training tax is necessary, because it is what makes it possible to keep the sport alive at the base and thus attract new high-performance athletes.

“The big issue is that Cuba trains athletes but later enslaves them, because it does not let them negotiate freely. The Cuban Baseball Federation is not an independent entity and they do not want players to manage contracts on their own,” said Oliva Yañez.

Regarding this type of audiovisual material on public television, blaming the embargo for the failures of the Cuban ball, the reporter pointed out that many times it is not about journalists who follow orders from the ICRT directors, but rather that they use that speech to ingratiate themselves with the bosses in exchange for a trip abroad.

“In this case, the data and justifications that the journalist gave are the same that INDER has used since ancient times to blame the embargo for everything bad, as is the case with other sectors of Cuba. The arguments given to blame the sanctions policy of The United States against the dictatorship is as old as the revolution itself, “he concluded.

Although the Cuban baseball crisis is not a recent issue, it becomes more evident in each international meeting where the national team must participate, and the most nostalgic yearn for those years when champions were crowned on the field.

The ruling party also blames the trafficking of athletes and as an example puts the abandonment of the Cuba team of players as Lazaro Blanco, who left during the Florida Pre-Olympic Tournament to stay in the United States.
