  • A 15-second shot clock with no runners on base; 20 seconds if there are runners on.
  • The shot clock will start once the pitcher receives the ball from the catcher or umpire. If the shot clock expires, the umpires will call a ball. And if the batters aren’t ready when the clock hits eight seconds, the umpires will call a strike.
  • Pitchers allowed two rubber falls (including pickoffs) per plate appearance.
  • If a pitcher steps off the third mound, a balk will be called. If there are no runners, the team will be charged a visit to the mound.
  • Batters must be in the batter’s box and “alert” with eight seconds remaining on the clock, and will be allowed one timeout per plate appearance.

Defensive switching ban

  • Teams will be allowed to have only two infielders on either side of second base and all infielders must be on infield dirt, unless playing on infield grass.
  • If a team violates this positioning rule, the batting team has the option of keeping the result of the play or having a ball called for the batter. This rule change will be reviewable.

larger bases

  • The bases will be larger, increasing from 15 square inches to 18 square inches.
