Frederlin Castro
When you consider how valuable Guillorme was to the Mets before he landed on the disabled list and that the types of hitting he throws are emblematic of how the Mets’ offense works when it’s at its best, it seems clear that Guillorme will once again be a mainstay of the lineup.
And considering how valuable Guillorme is defensively, it makes a lot of sense for him to be at third base or second base every game.

That would mean using Escobar as the designated hitter most games to also have Guillorme’s glove on the field.

There is no scenario in which the Mets can justify sitting Escobar right now in favor of anyone., and that’s because he’s been grinding not only from the right side of the plate but also from the left. Also, so far in September he has five home runs with nine RBIs for a .462/.500/.923 line.

There’s also the possibility that when Guillorme is activated, the Mets could use Escobar as their primary DH. That would allow them to keep Terrance Gore (whose main asset is speed) as a pinch-run option.
Eduardo Escobar has been unstoppable in the month of September for the New York Mets:
• 40AP
• .457/.500/.914 (284 wRC+)
• 5 HR, 9 RBI
• 10.0% BB, 12.5% SO
• .457ISO

Either way, the Mets’ best lineup right now is one with Escobar in it. And his best defensive lineup is one with Guillorme in the infield. We’ll see how this affects the DH plan down the stretch.
