MLB: Reds’ 102 MPH super prospect is 90 feet behind GL

Prospect No. 2 of the Cincinnati Reds, Hunter Greene, is getting a promotion that will take him one step away from pitching in the majors. A source told MLB.com on Sunday that Greene will move from Double-A Chattanooga to make your next opening in Triple-A Louisville. The roster move will go official Monday or Tuesday and will launch for Louisville later this week in Omaha.

Greene pitched six innings on Friday, allowing two hits and striking out nine in Chattanooga’s 1-0 slate win over Pensacola. His fastball hit 102 mph and he edged out another elite prospect at No. 22, Max Meyer, of the Miami Marlins organization.

The right-hander registered 15 fanned strikes with his fastball, slider, cutter, changeup and threw 67 of his 106 pitches for strikes. In many of his starts, Greene routinely pushes his fastball speed to more than 100 mph.

The second overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, Greene sprained the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow during the ’18 season at the Class A low level with Dayton, Ohio. He finally underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2019, after a torn UCL had developed.
