MLB proposes Playoffs with 14 teams, although the Association rejects and this is why

MLB tried to link the changes in the Draft order with the desired one 14-team playoffs of the league. Unsurprisingly, the union did not see that as favorable compensation. The MLBPA (Players Association) has been up for a 12-club postseason.

So far, however, he has been against a 14-set playoff run of ninths, fearing that a broader field could reduce the incentive for teams to improve their rosters through free agency:

issues like the Playoff expansion (a key goal of the league), the competitive balance tax, the bonus pool for pre-arbitration players and the union’s push for broader arbitration eligibility remain unresolved and appear to be a bit more contentious.

Obviously, there’s still a lot to figure out, and we’re now just three days away from MLB’s next Monday, Feb. 28 deadline for a deal before the league starts canceling regular-season games.

That still looks like a tall order, although today’s reports on Friday come with a hint of more optimism about the tenor of the talks than earlier in the week. They will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, and they are expected to sit down every day until the end of the month in the hope of reaching an agreement.
