One of the most unpopular figures at the Boston Red Sox No doubt it’s the president of operations and ‘de facto’ general manager, Chaim Bloom, who has made some pretty questionable decisions since coming to his position, since he’s under his guard Gone are Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Kyle Schwarber, Andrew Benintendi, Christian Vázquezamong others, being perhaps the next Rafael Devers.
In his column for The New York Post, Jon Heyman of MLB Network mentions that the big winner from Xander Bogaerts not signing in the Red Sox is ‘Carita’ Devers himself, since now Chaim Bloom has all the pressure so that the Dominican does not slip away in free agency and they would give all the money that didn’t go to Bogaerts to him.
Via text message, Bloom mentioned the following to Heyman.
Our efforts are only intensifying (with Devers), but it’s something we’ve wanted to do for a long time (deal an extension) and hopefully we’ll find a way soon
Following the big signings of this free agency, Devers is expected to be able to land a contract of at least $300 million or more due to his prime age and peak production still ahead of him.
