MLB-Kevin Gausman: The San Francisco Giants “never made me an offer”

It was known that San Francisco Giants looking to re-sign pitcher Kevin Gausman, and as the free-agent right-hander neared his decision, it seemed the Giants were one of the favorites to put Gausman’s name on the dotted line.

As interested as the club may have been in a meeting, it appears the Giants’ explorations never manifested into an actual contract offer. According to Gausman himself through his Twitter account:

I want to make things clear [porque] there have been many [BS] about this. SF never made me an offer. Simple as that.”

It doesn’t appear that Gausman necessarily resented the lack of an offer, since after signing with the Toronto Blue Jays Before the lockout, he sent out a couple of tweets thanking both Giants and San Francisco fans.

Gausman’s 2020 season in San Francisco was impressive enough that the Giants issued him a qualifying offer after the season, and the two sides discussed a multi-year deal before Gausman finally he will choose to accept the QO of one year and $18.9MM.

With Gausman pitching even better in 2021, the right-hander was now well lined up for a much larger multiyear contract than what would have been on the table from the Giants or other teams in the 2020-21 offseason, and Gausman wound up landing a five-year, $110 million deal from the Blue Jays.
